FAQ

The race date changed and I don’t want to run a virtual race. Can I just get a refund?

We too are disappointed to not be hosting the Bridgehampton Half on May 9th at the Beebe Windmill. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds. We appreciate your understanding. For a detailed explanation, we suggest reading  this article.

What is a virtual race. How do I record my run? How will I get my shwag?

The virtual race is the ultimate you do you. You can run where you are, when you chose, on the BH Half course, in the park, around your neighborhood, on a treadmill. You can run between May 9th and June 6th Let us know your time by June 6th  by recording your results here: VIRTUAL RACE RESULTS

We have your race shirts, an (awesome) canvas beach bag and our favorite medal yet ready to go. We are hoping to host packet pick up in the Hamptons later in summer but if we you’d like us to we will send your race shwag to you after your virtual race. You can let us know on the Virtual Race Results Form.

Where can I park?

1. Corwith Avenue parking lot, behind the Bridgehampton Historical Society/Museum. It is FREE to park here and a quick walk from here to the starting line. See the link below for a map of Bridgehampton Village, with Corwith Avenue and the start line labeled for you.

2. Bridgehampton High School parking lot, located on Montauk Highway, just past Ocean Road. This is an 8-10 minute walk from the starting line. There is a $20 fee to park here and it is limited to 90 spots. Parking permits can be purchased at registration. The Bridgehampton School PTA is partnering with us to make parking available at the school and all parking fees will go directly to the school. The lot will not open until 7am sharp, and anyone parked there before 7am will be towed by the Southampton Police. There is no parking without a Bridgehampton Half hang tag. See map below for location of the School and the starting line.

3. There is one smaller lot behind the stores at the west end of Bridgehampton village that is accessed by School Street.  Please click on either of the two maps above, locate Bobby Van’s, and note the parking lot behind it.

There will be no parking on Ocean Road or Hildreth Ave.  We need both streets to remain free of cars for emergency vehicles and for you, our runners!  In terms of on-street parking, much of the area is a no-parking zone. If you do find side streets on which to park, please make sure you stay out of driveways, leave mailboxes accessible to mail trucks, and stay far away from fire hydrants. We’d like our neighbors to like us, so please be kind to them. Thank you.

Is there bag check?

We will have bag check available at the Ops Tent near the starting line.

What should I do if I get injured?

All injuries are different but most importantly, rest is key. If you only missed a few days and a few miles you may be able to just continue with your workout. However, if the injury is a little more serious you may need to cut down the mileage or maybe even reconsider your commitment to the marathon. Pool workouts are a great substitute for running if the injury is not as severe and weight training and yoga also help. Make sure you consult a physician for all injuries.

What should I do if I am injured and will not be able to compete?

We regret that entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE under any circumstances, even if you cancel due to injury, even with a doctor’s note and we cannot transfer your registration to the September Hamptons Marathon & Half.  There are options though. Runners who are entered in the 2020 race but cancel/defer by May 9, 2020, will be eligible for guaranteed discounted entry into the 2021 race.  Click here to defer your registration to 2021. We will also permit official bib transfers. If you would like to transfer your bib to a friend, please email diane@bridgehamptonhalf.com before May 9, 2020. In the event that you are not able to participate, and do not notify us of a deferral or transfer by May 9, entry fees for the 2021 race will NOT transfer to the 2021 race or any race thereafter.

How many runners are in the race?

We are registering between 1000 and 1,200 runners.

How long do I have to complete the Bridgehampton Half?

The course will be open for 3 hours. After 3 hours, runners still on the course will be allowed to finish but there will be no course support available, so plan your hydration accordingly. The finish line will be open for 3 hours.

Can I walk?

Yes.

How is the race timed?

The Bridgehampton Half-Marathon will be using ChronoTrack Systems™ B-Tag™. The B-Tag is a single-use RFID tag that participants have on their race bib to record their time. The B-tag is easy to use and is far lighter and less intrusive than other timing tags and chips, it can be used in all weather conditions, and is disposable after the race. The B-Tag records your time at the start, at the finish line, and at splits during the race.

Can I wear an iPod?

It is our goal to ensure the safety of all of our runners. The Southampton Town Board has noted that “Southampton rules prohibit personal audio devices with two earpieces to be used during the event.”

Is tracking available?

Yes! We will provide tracking information race week.

Are there good spectator viewing areas? Where?

The best spectator viewing is at the intersection of Sagg Main St and Cemetery Lane which will allow you to see your runner twice. You can grab a coffee up the road at the Sagg Store on Sagg Main near Hedges. Please be sure to pull your cars well off the roads and do not block driveways or fire hydrants. We also encourage spectators (especially those with kids) to go to Fairview Farms at Horsemill Lane and Mecox Road – there is a nice area to pull off at this local farmstand, where you can see your runners and also play with the chickens and cows (and buy some local produce and cheese from Harry, who is expecting you!).

How should I find accommodations?

Our travel partner, Running Away – The Active Travel Company for Runners is delighted to assist you with all your travel needs, including hotel reservations, flights, rental cars, and transportation for the upcoming Bridgehampton Half. Please email Matt or call 877-544-AWAY (2929) to speak with a travel consultant.

How many water stations are there on the course?

There are 6 water stations on the course, with both water and Gatorade at each station.

What should I eat before the race?

You should certainly eat before a race, but in terms of what and when, every runner is different. Training is about all aspects of the race- running, of course, but also testing out your clothing, experimenting with your pre-race meal, finding the hydration and nutrition plan that works best for you during the race. Try different meals during practices, typically the longer ones and find out what works best for you.

I did not get a number but I would still like to participate in some way. How can I help out?

If you want to learn about volunteer opportunities, email info@bridgehamptonhalf.com. You are guaranteed entry to the 2021 race if you volunteer on race day.
