This inaugural event is co-hosted by the Knightdale-Wake Forest Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (KWFAC) and the Knightdale-Wake Forest Education Foundation (KWFEF) to benefit two local nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, the Knightdale-Wake Forest Education Foundation and the Dorothy Mae Hall Women's Center.
The Knightdale-Wake Forest Education Foundation is a public charitable organization created to serve and advocate for low to moderate income persons (as defined by the state of North Carolina) that reside in the rural areas of Wake County, NC. The organization is committed to strengthening our communities through lifetime enrichment programs focused on education and scholastic achievement, health and wellness, and economic growth.
The Dorothy Mae Hall Women’s Center’s mission is to provide transitional housing to homeless single women and women with children. The organization seeks to promote self-esteem, self-confidence and advanced training to empower each participant.
The event will be held in Knightdale at the Knightdale Station Park located at 810 North First Avenue beginning at 9 am. Pre-registered entrants can pick up their packets and late entrants can register at the Knightdale Station Park Pavilion beginning at 8 am on race day.
Participants in the 5K can either enter as a timed or non-timed entry. Those who register as "timed" will receive an official finish time, will be listed in the results, and be eligible for awards. Those who enter as "untimed" will not be listed in the results nor be eligible for awards. However, all finishers will be able to see their finish times on a digital clock at the finish line.
Anyone who is unable to attend but wants to support the event can enter as a "virtual" entry.
The entry fees for ages 13 and older are $35, up to and including, April 30th, $40 from May 1 - May 30 and $45 on race day.
For ages 12 and younger, each fee is $15 less. All those who enter by May 13th are guaranteed a T-shirt in their size. After May 13th, T-shirts will be given out "as available."
For the 5K, awards will be given to the top three male finishers and to the top three female finishers. In the 1-mile "Fun Run", each finisher will receive a medallion.
Race results will be posted at the race and on www.runnc.com.
After the 5K and 1-mile are completed, participants are invited to celebrate with live music with a DJ, snacks, and a community resource fair.
