Overview:
The Johnston County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is proud to present the 12th Annual Johnston County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run for Domestic Violence Awareness on Saturday May 18, 2024. The race will start and finish at the greenway at Municipal Park located at 325 McCullers Street in Clayton, NC. The 5K starts at 9:00 AM and 1-Mile Fun Run at 9:15 AM. There will be nutritional snacks and water provided after the race.
Race Beneficiary:
Our 5K is a fundraiser to support scholarships for high school seniors and community service programs benefiting Johnston County. In addition, a portion of proceeds from the race will benefit the Harbor, Inc. of Smithfield, North Carolina. Harbor, Inc. is a domestic violence and sexual assault agency located in Johnston County. Since 1984, this Not-for-Profit organization has provided victims with a variety of services and programs to aid them to move beyond a life of violence to one that is violence free and encourages self-sufficiency. The mission of Harbor is to provide help, hope, and safety to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. For more information visit: https://harborshelter.org
Entry Fees:
All 5K participants will have the option to be timed. All walk/runner competitive and recreational participants are welcome to attend. Although all finishers will be able to see their time at the finish line, only the first three men and women will be eligible for awards. Participants will have the option to choose between the 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run. Participants will also have the option to choose between in-person or virtual. Entry fee for participants 13 and up is $35; increasing to $40 starting May 1st and on the day of the race. The entry fee for participants 12 and under is $15 with no race day increase. T-shirts are guaranteed to all those who register by April 30th.
Mail-In Entry Form
You can download a mail-in entry form and pay by check or money order. Please mail and make your check or money order out to Johnston County Alumnae Chapter of DST and mail it to PO Box 2216, Smithfield, NC 27577.
Packet Pick up and Same Day Registration
Pre-registered entrants can pick up their packets and late entries can register at the Start/Finish Line in the Municipal Park beginning at 7:30 am.
Course
Walk/run through the newly transformed Municipal Park with its rolling course and greenways. While walking or running the course takes a short tour on the Sam’s Branch Greenway. It starts and finishes on the parking deck. There will be one water stop on the course near the 2-mile mark and each mile will be marked. The 1-Mile Fun Run for those that want a shorter course will begin and end in the same place. The One Mile Fun Run will be on the back course through the Community.
Awards
Awards for the 5K will be presented to the first three overall men and women to finish the course in-person. Awards will not be given for the 1-Mile Fun Run.
Results
The results for the competitive 5K participants will be posted at the event and also on www.runnc.com.
Post-Race Party
All participants are invited to join us after the race to enjoy music, nutritional snacks, and water.
