2021 is the 10th Year of Skinny Turkey
The ONLY Thanksgiving Day run in Raleigh offers a Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, 1 Mile, and Kid's Dash! Thanksgiving Day has never been more fun with a distance for everyone.
Plus, ALL distances are stroller-friendly and pet-friendly - don't leave anyone at home on Thanksgiving morning.

NoT-Shirts after 11/11/2021. No guarantee on Medals after 11/11/2021, but we will provide as many as we can. We will also have some old swag (t-shirts, medals, etc.) on a first-come, first-serve basis for those that sign up after 11/11/2021. Registration will be open until 11/21/2021.

We are bringing back our long-sleeved shirt* for the 5k, 10k, and half-marathoners.
RACE DAY SCHEDULE
All events start and finish at Wakefield High School in North Raleigh.

The SKINNY TURKEY HALF MARATHON course will run through Wakefield Plantation and the Wake Falls neighborhood. The course is rolling with a few hills that are sure to test your fitness. The course is very scenic, primarily through the Wake Falls neighborhood.
The SKINNY TURKEY 10K will follow along part of the half-marathon course before turning around and heading back to the school. We'll make sure to pack plenty of hills in those 6.2 miles!
The SKINNY TURKEY 5K Road Race is the major fundraiser for the Just Think First Program. The event helps fund teaching videos that tell the story of something that happened to real students who attended school at Wakefield High. Besides funding for the video projects, proceeds from the 5K race also pay for speakers and various activities planned during the school year to help encourage students to make the right choices. In addition, scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors in the spring.
HALF MARATHON TIME LIMIT
The roads will NOT be closed for this event, and to ensure the safety of all athletes and volunteers, the time limit for the half marathon is 3:15. This is approximately a 15 min. pace and will have all participants back at Wakefield High School by 10:45 AM. Any runners on the half marathon course after 10:45 AM may be picked up by one of the SAG wagons and taken back to the start/finish line area.

5K: The top 3 male and female overall, top 3 masters male and female, and the top three finishers in each of the following age groups: 8 and under; 9-11; 12-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70-over.
10K: The top 3 male and female overall, top 3 masters male and female, and the top three finishers in each of the following age groups: 14-under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70-over.
Half Marathon: The top 3 male and female overall, top 3 masters male and female, and top 3 finishers in each of the following age groups: 14-under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70-over.

JUST THINK FIRST 2021 UPDATE
The FS Series was incorporated and began hosting events in 2006. In addition to a strong reputation for putting on top-quality events, it has worked hard to become part of the community. FS Series is a for-profit company with a strong reputation for partnering and giving back to many beneficiaries. This specific race team recently raised over $3700 for Make-A-Wish NC from the Brier Creek Cupcake Run in October 2021.
In partnership with Wakefield High School Parent Teacher Student Association, FS Series created the Skinny Turkey Road Race on Thanksgiving to help heal a community. Since its inception over ten years ago, the SKINNY TURKEY Road Race has become a significant fundraiser for the Just Think First Program. In the past, the event has helped fund teaching videos that tell the story of something that happened to real students who attended school at Wakefield High. Here is a small example of some of the early efforts.
This race has also helped fund video projects, and proceeds also paid for speakers and various activities planned during the school year to help students make the right choices. In addition, every year since the race started, the Just Think First Program has awarded scholarships to graduating seniors every year.
In full transparency, the canceling of the 2020 Skinny Turkey impacted both FS Series and the Just Think First Program. Currently, the program is in transition and is planning adjustments with a new and fresh approach for a post-pandemic world. The FS Series team is in close collaboration with the school to develop new ideas and goals for the program. Proceeds and donations from the 2021 Skinny Turkey will be leveraged towards a new mission and program at Wakefield High School. Our commitment and history to our community will remain strong as we work through this transition with the school.
The collaboration will be evident at the 2021 Skinny Turkey as many volunteering students from Wakefield High play a critical role in the success of the race day. Take notice of the significant presence of students volunteering to achieve Just Think First Program recognition at graduation and take the time to thank them. Also, when you visit Wakefield High School, you may notice Just Think First flags and stickers around the school.When the future of the program is clear, we will provide updates to our running community. We are expecting planning to take place in the first half of 2022.
The safety of our participants, volunteers, fans, and staff remains our top priority as we monitor the spread of the Coronavirus while preparing for Nov 25. As of now, the race is still on as scheduled. We must defer to the guidance of local, state, and federal health experts as we continue to learn more about this pandemic on a daily basis. If plans for the event should change, we will update you with further information and details immediately.
FS Series appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding as we navigate these uncharted waters to do what is best for the community as a whole.
