About the Event

When

Sunday, September 23, 2018 @ 8am

Where

Dorthea Dix Park

There have been a number of bicycle/car accidents and tragedies this year in the triangle and there are many close calls riders experience each and every week while riding. To encourage safe cycling and to promote positive interactions between bicyclists and drivers, local riders, bike clubs and various organizations will be hosting the Capital Area Ride for Safety (CARS). This ride will be a roundtrip from Dorthea Dix park in Raleigh.

The CARS ride will carry the message across the triangle encouraging bicycling, demonstrate obedience to the law, show proper car/bicycling etiquette, support local tourism, and generate constructive dialogue. The idea is to educate, raise awareness and encourage positive interaction between drivers and bicyclist.

WEATHER: In the event of rain the event will be canceled for safety reasons. A ride weather update will be posted a few days before the event.

Participating Cyclist Expectations

TO ALL RIDERS:

A.   Each rider is responsible for bringing all the essential equipment and tools such as helmet, spare tubes, pump/CO2, hydration, etc. No helmet - no ride!  There will be bicycle support vehicles following the group in case there is a need for mechanical service.

B.   It is strongly recommended that you carry your driver's license, health insurance card (or copies), a note containing emergency contact information or Road I.D. in case of an emergency.

C.   Each rider MUST sign a waiver during registration. IMPORTANT NOTE:  IF YOU DO NOT SIGN THE ELECTRONIC WAIVER, YOU CAN NOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT.

D.  While riding please DO NOT CROSS THE CENTER LINE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC!  There will be road marshalls to make sure that all riders stay in the right hand lane.

E.   CARS t-shirts are being sold online as well as at the event - WHILE SUPPLIES LAST.  Click on the "Registration" link above to order your shirt.  Currently, we are not anticipating doing a rerun so when they are gone, they are gone.

F.  We will have plenty of mechanical support with bike shops being represented.

DISCLAIMER: You understand that bicycle riding is an inherently dangerous sport. Rides under the banner of CAPITAL AREA RIDE for SAFETY (CARS) are open for public participation, but CAPITAL AREA RIDE for SAFETY (CARS) DO NOT assume any liability for your participation. In no event, shall CAPITAL AREA RIDE for SAFETY (CARS) accept any liability for any injury, loss, or damage incurred by use of, or reliance, on information on our facebook page, or from participating in group rides with the CAPITAL AREA RIDE for SAFETY (CARS).

The committee would like to thank everyone for their support.  Let's pass along the message to families and friends.

See everyone at the event!
