Glenaire Retirement Community is proud to present the ninth annual Glenaire 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, April 5, 2025. The race will start and finish at the Community located at 5000 Glenhope Court in Cary. The 5K starts at 9:00 am and the 1 Mile Fun Run starts at 9:05 am.

In 2024 over 490 runners and walkers entered the event. Reilly Shew (17:31) led the field across the finish line in the 5K.  Renita Johnson led the women finishing in 20:48. Omar Wiggan holds the men’s course mark of 16:58 which he ran in 2017. The women’s course mark was set by Erin Taylor in 2017 when she completed the course in 18:54.


Most race entries include a swag bag, t-shirt, pint glass and other goodies. Coffee, food and water prerace. Papa John's pizza, breakfast, beverages and entertainment will also be provided post-race. There will be a bag check station available for personal items. Parking will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Church located at 221 Union Street in Cary.  Bus transportation will be provided.  Do not park at the start/finish are or along the race course.

Race Beneficiary
As a non-profit, Presbyterian-affiliated organization, Glenaire has never asked a resident to leave our community simply because they have outlived their resources. In its 31 years, Glenaire has provided over $5 million in financial assistance. In, 2025, we expect to provide over $600,000.00 in scholarship funds. 100% of race proceeds will support this cause.

Entry Fees
All 5K participants will have the option to be timed, but recreational runners and walkers are welcome. Although all finishers will be able to see their time at the finish, only competitive entrants will be eligible for awards. The 5K entry fee is $35 increasing to $40 on race day. The 1 Mile Fun Run fee is $25 with no race day increase. Registered children under the age of 12 are free, but this does not include a t-shirt. T-shirts are available for purchase during the registration process for $10. T-shirts are guaranteed to all those who register by March 12th. After that date, they will be “as available’.

Packet Pick Up and Same Day Registration
Early packet pick up will be at Glenaire, 8000 Glenview Garden Place in Cary on April 3rd from 4:30-7:00pm. Same day packet pick up and registration will open at 7:30am at the start/finish line.

Course
This is a fast and rolling course through the neighborhoods near downtown Cary. It takes a short tour on the Higgins Greenway. It starts and finishes on the parking deck. This course is certified by USA Track & Field. There will be one water stop on the course near the 2-mile mark and each mile will be marked as well. The 1 Mile Fun Run will begin and end in the same place. It’s out and back course through the Community.
 
Awards
Awards for the 5K will be presented to the first three overall men and women and to the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions (both genders): 12 and under, 13-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90 and over.

Results
The results for the competitive 5K participants will be posted at the race and also at www.runnc.com. All results will count towards state records and national rankings.

Post Race Party
All participants are invited to join us after the race to enjoy music, food and beverages.
