Last year this first-time event was held to honor the 175th Anniversary of St. Paul AME Church in Raleigh, and due to the success of that event, the race will continue.

Funds from the event will continue the rich legacy of this historic church in serving the Raleigh/Wake County Community.  The church's mission of community outreach which addresses socio-economic issues through programs targeting homelessness, food insecurity, foster care, literacy, and healthcare initiatives, all of which impact our immediate and surrounding communities. Programs include, but are not limited to the following: Habitat for Humanity, Backpack Buddies at Moore’s Square Middle School, the AME Empowerment Shelter, Smith Elementary School Heroes Read Program, the Ligon Middle School Food Pantry, A Place at the Table, suitcases for kids in foster care, St. Saviour’s Healthy Baby/Diaper Train, Wake Interact , Thermals and blankets for the Homeless, and the Crop Hunger  Walk.  A percentage of all profits will go toward the continuation of these community projects.
