Last year this first-time event was held to honor the 175th Anniversary of St. Paul AME Church in Raleigh, and due to the success of that event, the race will continue.
Funds from the event will continue the rich legacy of this historic church in serving the Raleigh/Wake County Community. The church's mission of community outreach which addresses socio-economic issues through programs targeting homelessness, food insecurity, foster care, literacy, and healthcare initiatives, all of which impact our immediate and surrounding communities. Programs include, but are not limited to the following: Habitat for Humanity, Backpack Buddies at Moore’s Square Middle School, the AME Empowerment Shelter, Smith Elementary School Heroes Read Program, the Ligon Middle School Food Pantry, A Place at the Table, suitcases for kids in foster care, St. Saviour’s Healthy Baby/Diaper Train, Wake Interact , Thermals and blankets for the Homeless, and the Crop Hunger Walk. A percentage of all profits will go toward the continuation of these community projects.

Last year over 50 participants registered for event. Fourteen-year-old Mekhi Shaw led all finishers in 25:48, while Naomi Daniel led the women in 29:07.
The event, which consists of a 5K and Kid’s Dash, will be held at Lake Benson Park located at 921 Buffaloe Road in Garner. Click here to download a course map.
The Kid’s Dash, for children ages 10 and younger, is the first event of the day, beginning at 8 am. The 5K begins at 8:30 am.
The entry fees are $40, up to and including October 12, and $45 thereafter up to and including race day. The entry fee for the Kid’s Dash (ages 12 and under) is $15.
T-shirts are guaranteed to all those entered by October 7. After that shirts will be given out “as available.”
Awards will be presented to the top male finisher overall, to the top female finisher overall, and to the top finishers in each of the following age groups (both male and female): 19-under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-over.
There will also a HBCU Challenge Team Competition and a Divine 9 Team Competition. Participants on those teams receive a $5 discount on their entry fee. The winning teams in each division will receive a trophy plus the team members of the winning teams will receive medals.
Pre-registered entrants can pick up their packets and late entrants can register on Friday, October 25, at Fleet Feet located at 3524 Wade Avenue in Raleigh OR on race day morning at Lake Benson Park beginning at 7 am.
Post race activities will include refreshments and a DJ.
