About Baddest Bipolar *itch & Family
Walking beside in support and advocacy for both our son and daughter, and the wonderful care they receive through UNC STEP, UNC REACH, UNC OASIS and DUKE Behavioral Health Hospital!
Mental Health is Physical Health, there is no distinction, there is HOPE!!!!
Mental Health is Physical Health, there is no distinction, there is HOPE!!!!
Why am I fundraising?
We have been Walking in Hope alongside both our daughter and son in their mental health recoveries. We are Walking in support and advocacy for our children, and all we have met on this 10+ year journey who have stayed in our hearts. We Walk also for all the incredible compassionate care we receive through UNC STEP, UNC REACH, UNC OASIS, Duke BHH.
And we Walk for all the wonderful doctors, nurses and team who gave us Hope when we first moved to Durham and Raleigh to be in the specialized care of Dr. Betty Staples and Team at Duke, Ryan Sobus, Veritas (The Emily Program) & Carolina House.
I began following the brilliant Dr. Cynthia Bulik at UNC and we became part of her ANGI study, her work was a beacon for me as a caregiver navigating the unknowns of Anorexia, depression and anxiety intertwined. Many hospital stays and med trials along the way and unfortunate PTSD that led to mania and psychosis. The genetics are strong within our family and others we love have been touched, including our son with psychosis. Not sure where would be without the care of UNC. Hopeful for strides in research this Walk is coming together for! Endless gratitude for UNCCH 4NCrisis compassionate Team, where during inpatient stay missing pieces to recovery were discovered and meds that brought our girl back to us. This time last year symptoms returned and upended my brave girl's life again but she is remarkable, and the specialized treatment and UNC Peer Support she has fully engaged in, has again been the key... hence the inspiration for my daughter to name our walking team: Baddest Bipolar *itch! So glad to have friends walking with us too!
CHEERS TO ONGOING RESEARCH, ADVANCES IN CARE AND THE ABILITY FOR ALL TO RECEIVE.
Our team image you see here is one of my original paintings on canvas, "From the Garden" HAS SOLD!!!! and "Full Bloom" HAS SOLD with donations directly to Walk for HOPE!
