About Charging For Hope
"Spreading Hope" is a club founded at Cary Academy after the loss of one of it own to suicide in 2020. The mission of the club to focus on de-stigmatizing mental health was met with overwhelming support by students and advisors. Collectively, our group actively strives to obtain 'peer-normalization'; to spread the notion that it is 'okay to not be okay'. Our club had many members participate in the "Walk for Hope" last year. The energy, fun and positivity that those who participated experienced inspired us to want to form a team of our own. It is apparent that our mission needs to expand far beyond the walls of our school and that "The Foundation of Hope" and the research they fund are a vital resource to change the broader paradigm surrounding mental health and suicide that truly is a silent endemic. This event is a legitimate way to contribute and aid in the further advancement of a meaningful and necessary cause and my team looks forward to running/walking along others who prioritize this mission. As we are the Cary Academy 'Chargers" we chose to not just walk for hope but rather to 'Charge for Hope" in order to make as great an impact as possible.
