Darlington Raceway, nicknamed The Lady in Black and the track Too Tough To Tame, is home to the award-winning Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR and annually hosts two NASCAR Cup Series race weekends, along with the NASCAR Xfinity Series and/or NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Opening in 1950, Darlington Raceway is “A NASCAR Tradition” and NASCAR’s original superspeedway with its famed 1.366-mile egg-shaped oval, challenging the sport's best in one of the most iconic NASCAR races, the Southern 500®. Rusty Wallace, a Hall of Fame NASCAR driver who raced at Darlington 43 times and never won, was known to say that as soon as a driver started racing his competitors and not the track, he was about to hit the wall. Many drivers have carried the famed "Darlington Stripe" on their cars to testify to her nature. (For more information about Darlington Raceway, visit darlingtonraceway.com.)
Over the last three years, the Darlington Raceway has teamed up with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) to form a new tradition: bicycles on the speedway! We invite you to join us as we continue hosting this exciting event for one of the world's most important charities.
We are thrilled to continue building our relationship with Darlington Raceway and the surrounding communities. Last year was our first year of moving the event off race weekend. Thanks to you, this proved highly successful - not to mention calmer and quieter. Therefore, we've decided to host our event on the last weekend of September. As last year, we will park in the driver's garage and start and finish on the track. We trust this will continue to give you the excellent experience you've come to expect from our team.
Once again, cyclists will complete nearly three laps around the speedway before exiting the track through the tunnel and riding on one of four routes: short, medium 1, medium 2, metric century, or English century. After completing their selected route, they will return to the track for additional laps as they desire and cross the famed start/finish line at "The Lady in Black."
Last year, we had a cyclist complete the metric century on the course and then return to complete enough laps on the track to complete an entire English century. That's certainly an option this year as well. Once you complete your route of choice, you can finish how you'd like. (However, no cyclists will be allowed to ride on the track after sunset, as the lights will not be energized for our use.)
Darlington Raceway has agreed to allow us to use their showers during the event.
