About Priya's Team
Priya died by suicide in January 2016. She was 24 years old. In spite of suffering from a cruel illness for most of her young life, she was:
*Shy, kind, and caring and always ready to help her friends with homework
*A champion speller who won her 4th and 5th grade spelling bees
*A tutor since middle school – teaching Algebra, Spanish and English
*A public service scholar
* A volunteer for a rape crisis center, a suicide hot line, for Americorps and Dress for Success
*Co-President of Active Minds, an organization devoted to de-stigmatizing mental illness in college campuses
*A rape survivor who took part in The Courage Project, which featured photos and testimonials of victims of sexual assault and who fought hard for survivors of sexual and relationship violence to be believed and supported
* Co-captain of her college Bhangra team who loved dancing and competing
*A proud member of her high school and college Honor Court
*Passionate about mental health, social justice and women’s issues and marched for causes she believed in
I am proud to be her mother and proud to walk in her memory to help others like her. Hope you will join me.

Why am I fundraising?
I am participating in the Walk for Hope to honor my daughter Priya who was lost to suicide in 2016. She was 24 years old.
I walk because i want Priya to be remembered for how she lived and not for how she died. I want her to be remembered for how hard she worked to eradicate stigma and help others and how driven she was to succeed academically and personally and professionally in spite of suffering immense pain for over 10 years of her young life.
I also walk because I don’t want another family to lose a loved one to suicide. You can read more about Priya here https://walkforhope.com/changemakers-geetha/
I would be honored if you would like to join our team and walk with us.
