Worcester Tri-Fest
June 5, 2016 at 7:30am (kids at 10:00)

to benefit the Greendale YMCA

Formerly the Greendale Tri, the Worcester Tri-Fest features multisport events for the whole family; traditional triathlon, paddle option, aquabike, aquathlon, duathlon, relay teams, and kids races!

Racers in the Sprint tri have the option of swimming 0.25 miles in calm Indian Lake or kayaking/SUPing 1 mile or run 1 mile (duathlon option).  Everyone will then hop on the bikes for a NEW 11 mile course that brings you out of Worcester and through the scenic back roads of Holden, MA.  The run is a  challenging 5k loop through adjoining neighborhoods before crossing the Finish Line at the Bancroft School. Aquabike is just swim and bike. Aquathlon is just swim and run.

Kids have their own race too!   The younger kids (6-9) will complete one length of the pool (50 yds), bike 1 mile on roads completely closed to traffic, and then run 1/4 mile.  The older kids (10-14) will do twice the distances (100 yds in pool/2 miles/0.5 miles). Kids Aquathlon is just the swim and run for the appropriate age distances.  NOTE:  The kids will swim in the Greendale YMCA pool.

Registration for any event (adults and kids) includes finisher medal for everyone, timing splits (overall time for kids only), music, post-race snacks.  Race shirts are available for purchase separately through online registration (free ones are NOT included with registration; this keeps the entry fees down and allows us to offer a variety of high quality products for sale).

FAQs

Q: What is the race cancelation policy?
A:

To ensure the safest event for the participants and all involved, we reserve the right to cancel, delay, or modify the format of the event at anytime. Believe us, it would have to be a very, very SERIOUS and DANGEROUS situation for the event to be canceled. But in the unfortunate situation this is required, there is a no-refund policy in place, as the majority of the costs have already been incurred to host the event and when associated, we do not want to take away any contributions to our charities. We expect you to be disappointed if the event is canceled, as we will be, but we also hope you understand why a no-refund policy is in place.

Q: Are there any refunds or transfers?
A:
Sorry, all registrations are final; there are no refunds or transfers to other participants.  Within 10 days of the event, you can transfer your paid registration to another future event, for a small fee.  Please see the Transfer page for full details.  If you are unable to do the event please let us know ASAP so someone else can take your spot.

Q: Are strollers, joggers, pets, etc allowed on the course?
A:

Due to insurance purposes, the safety of all participants, and USAT Rules, we cannot allow strollers, joggers, pets, etc on any of the courses at all.

Q: How many participants will be allowed to register?
A:
The race capacity is 400 adults and 100 kids.

Q:  Is the event chip-timed?
A: Yes.  We use New England Timing with ankle chip timing.  All athletes will receive 5 splits. Kids receive just one overall time.  Results will be posted online at coolrunning.com and on this website after the event.

Q: How many water stations are on the course?
A:
There will be (1) aid stations on the run course, none on the bike course.

Q: Is the event sanctioned by the USAT?
A: Yes, the triathlon is sanctioned by the USAT and will observe all USAT rules. Everyone must have an annual membership ($50 for adult, $10 for youth (under 17)) or purchase a one day USAT license.    This is standard for all USAT sanctioned events.  See below for more info.

Q: What is a one-day USAT license?
A: A one-day license allows an athlete to compete in a USAT sanctioned race without purchasing an annual membership. The $15 fee provides the (adult) athlete with excess accident insurance for that race only.  You can purchase this one day license online when you register.  One-day licenses are not available for kids (new for 2016, see above).   Visit USATriathlon.org for more information.

Q: Will there be a Clydesdale or Athena Division in the triathlon?
A: Yes, Clydesdale are males over 220 pounds and Athena’s are females over 165 pounds, and you must elect to participate in this division during registration. This is only for the adult swim triathlon.

Q: Are wetsuits allowed?
A:

Per USAT rules, wetsuits are allowed when the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower. If it is 78.1-83.9 degrees, wetsuits can be worn but the participant will not be eligible for awards.  If the water temperature is 84 degrees or warmer, no one is allowed to wear wetsuits.  In early-June, the water temperature will likely be less than 78 degrees so we anticipate this being a wetsuit-legal race. Water temperature will be tested in the days leading up to the race and again on race day. For the 2014 and 2015 races, water temperature was in the mid-60's.

Q: Do I have to wear a swim cap?
A:
Yes, you are required to wear the colored swim cap issued to you for the race.  This cap  assists the on-water safety personal in identifying you.

Q: Do I have to wear a helmet on the bike course?
A: YES – No Exceptions.

Q: What time does the transition area close?
A: The transition area closes 15 minutes prior to the start of each race (so 7:15 for adults and 9:45 for kids)  Please, make every effort to be out of the transition on time so we can start the races on time.

Q: Can I pick up my friend's packet?
A:
No. Every participant must pick up their own packet and show ID. The only exception is that a parent can pickup their child's packet if they had to co-sign the USAT waiver.

Q: What is the minimum age to participate in triathlon?
A:
All athletes must be at least 12 years old (by December 31) to participate in the adult triathlon. Minimum age is 5 for the kids triathlon (again, age as of December 31), but please contact the race director for special circumstances.

Q: What are the other requirements for the kids races?
A:
All athletes must be able to swim without the use of any personal floatation device (swimmies, vest, noodle). Also, training wheels are not allowed on the bike course, nor are aerobars.
